# Translate content

{% hint style="info" %}
Only text and text area attributes with local scope can be translated. You can translate from the languages you can read into the languages you can edit.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Read how to add more languages [here](https://usermanual.ergonode.com/system/settings/languages).
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Keep in mind that AI-generated content may contain errors. Review the translated values carefully.
{% endhint %}

To open this action, click on **AI Actions** in the bar above the grid and choose **Translate content**.

Under ***Attribute to translate***, choose the attribute. Then choose one language under ***Translate from*** and one or more languages under ***Translate to***. Options of a select attribute are not translated here: translate them in the attribute's [Options](https://usermanual.ergonode.com/product-design/attributes/options).

You can also switch on ***Add custom prompt*** to give the AI more instructions in the **Prompt** field. Choose the ***AI Model*** used for the translation. The multiplier next to each model's name (x1, x2, x20) shows how many AI credits it uses compared to a x1 model. The ***Translate*** button shows the estimated number of AI credits the action uses. Then click on ***Translate***.

A confirmation window will show up. Click ***Start batch action*** to start or ***Cancel*** to go back to the form. AI requests are counted even if the result doesn't meet the attribute limitations.

The progress shows in the same window. You can close it: the action continues, and you can follow it in the [Action center](https://usermanual.ergonode.com/dashboard/dashboard/user-menu-and-action-center/action-center). You can stop the action from the ***three dots*** menu with ***Stop action***.

When the batch action is finished, a success or error message will appear. Click on ***Finish*** to close the window or ***See details*** for more information. The translations are saved in the chosen attribute and languages.

The action details list every product with its status and error message, if there is one. For example, a product with no value in the language you translate from is not translated.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://usermanual.ergonode.com/products/catalog/ai-actions/translate-content.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
